This book is packed with information and is extremly well written to get the facts across. But the writing style is a bit technical, just the facts and how to do it all. it reads like a service bulitin. If you can learn from that then its great but if you cant then you wont be able to get through this book. It also leans toward british stuff, there is a section on carbs and it focus' on the weber side draft and one other british carb that i cant remember the name of right now. all in all it was a good book and if you read it closely you can apply most of it to american vehicles also. I learned alot, even though it was somtimes difficult to hold my intrest.

This book is mostly about english or european racing engines and aftermarket engine management systems including turbocharging. It includes a CD that has a engine management program that can be installed on a laptop windows computer. to monitor or change settings in many aftermarket engine management systems. Also has considerable general information on engine management systems.

I just recently attended EFI University and was told by instructor to read this book. It had great information for beginning tuners. It even had section about tuning individual carburetors. The electronic fuel injection section was very informative but gave a slight bias to tuning british vehicles and individual throttle bodies. The book had many british words which I had to look up to understand. It included a special version of Emerald M3DK program to help beginning tuners to gain hands on experience.

This book is good for those who want to learn the basic EFI system. Some thoery, and some parts interesting. It was more oriented towards beginners.

Lost my original copy. This book is invaluable and hard to find now! No longer in print according to Dave Walker

My four and a half year old son is in love with whales right now. In particular he wants to see pictures of whales. We got him this book for Christmas as a part of a whale themed package and I have to say it's great. There are lots of pictures and because it's geared for a young reader it a fairly short book so we are able to read it to him. I will note however that this book it only about sperm whales which worked great for us since he's interested in learning about all whales. However, if you are looking for a book that covers multiple types of whales you may want to keep on looking.

When you hear your kid come to you and marvel about how deep the whale can dive, you know you bought the right book. This book is informative and filled with many good pictures of different kind of whales. Not just my boy, I like this book too!

Being an ex children's librarian, I find reluctant reader's especially boys gravitate to these non fiction books, great for sight reading, I have my kids say all the words on the page they know then we highlight them and peace them together. There are many little people boys as well as girls that greatly benefit from non fiction books geared toward them and the subjects they love.

This is a great book for teaching the way animals move or what they do in winter!

I love all of the National Geographic Kids books! The text, maps, charts, information, and pictures are all so beautiful! This particular one- Whales, is fabulous! I have to credit this series for helping my students move on from 4 and 5-letter words to sounding out trickier words.

We've bought a number of these to introduce our 3 year old daughter to non-fiction writing. The dolphins and sea turtles books are level 2, they're complex concepts but with mom or dad to help explain and discuss things while reading them to her its fine. This one however deals with the concept of migration, which even with mom and dad helping she just doesn't grasp. Its not the language thats the problem, but the concepts. Will be good when she's older.

Never get enough about whales and my students loved it!

It was helpful and gave me ideas on layering and creating context and tension in sex scenes. However, it was not exactly what I was looking for, because it turns out that writing sex for mainstream literature is different from writing erotica, and I am doing the latter. But now I know! If you want your sex scenes in non-erotica to be more grounded, realistic and forward your plot, this would be helpful. If you're just trying to turn people on, not so much.

This is a book about writing sex scenes and erotica, but more importantly, it's a book about good writing, period. Even a writer who does not include a single erotic or explicit scene in his work would benefit greatly from reading this book. I've owned this book for a decade and have read it many times, and it's on my short list of the four or five most important books a beginning writer of fiction can read. The best thing about it is it answers some simple agonizing but common questions an author has--even if there is no explicit sex in his work.For instance, she concisely answers one of the most agonizing questions beginning writers have: "What do I call it". Meaning the genitals of a man or woman character. I mean (I went through this myself) I don't want to offend anybody, and the terms used by practically everybody would be vulgar in polite company, but I don't want to be cute or evasive or trite. So what do I call it? A fellow writing friend of mine asked me to read some of his work, and in it he referred to a man's member as his "manhood". I laughed so hard I almost fell out of my chair. I do not want to evoke that reaction in one of my serious works of fiction, however few erotic scenes they might contain.So in answer to this question which has undoubtedly agonized many of the best writers (James Lee Burke calls it a "phallus", which is technically correct but might not be immediately recognized for what it is by the average reader) in comes Benedict riding a white horse and waving a simple answer over her head. Like anything else, you call it what your character would call it. Bang! Simple as that, and right on the nose. A doctor might use clinical terms, but most others will use the common and vulgar terms amongst friends and lovers. Like Alexander, Benedict cleaves the Gordian knot with a single sword stroke and settles a question about an issue so many writers worry about and never seem to get right, in their attempts to be polite. Don't worry about who you might offend. Think about what the character would call it, and have the character call it that. Period. It isn't like 99% of people have never heard the word "d*ck" before.That's just one single practical bit of advice you get from this book. There is such a density of useful knowledge in this short book it should weigh as much as if it were solid Uranium. Again, like I said, there's so much good teaching about good writing in this book, even if your own fiction contains no intimate scenes whatsoever, you have much to gain from reading Benedict's book.A caveat: this is a book about writing about sex. The author, quite appropriately, includes extremely explicit segments quoted from some of the best writers of erotica or simply erotic scenes in history. Informative, and very instructive (not just in writing about intimate scenes) but if that sort of thing offends you, you should probably avoid this book. But if not, you need to read this book. You will learn a lot about not just writing intimate scenes well, but about writing well, period.

This book is extremely helpful in understanding just how much work sex scene and the dynamics that go into can help when you're writing one. My MFA professor recommended it after I had written a scene for a short story and a lot of what is written in this book is very straightforward and even includes some exercises for you at the end. But a great deal of this is practical advice and things you should know as you go along. I would recommend this to anyone interested in the importance of a sex scene in literature, as well as how to create one properly.

This is a nonfiction book for fiction writers. I recommend this book for any romance writer - writing any love scenes and especially those writing erotica romance love scenes. Most people, who are not writers, think writing sex scenes have to do with writing sex, but as the mind is the most important organ in sex, you have to write strong conflict in a love scenes and you have to describe sensations and feelings in a way that's real and unique and keep in mind the love scene also has to reveal more about the characters and move the plot forward. In other words it takes some high quality writing and good skill with the craft to create a strong, moving, believable love scene. This book did help me improve my love scenes and I am sure it will do the same for other writers.

I had the pleasure of hearing a lecture and visiting with Elizabeth Benedict, which inspired me to choose this book when I was pondering the best way to approach the sexuality component of a couple of characters in a mystery novel. I'm glad I did. Despite the title, this book is really about the joy of writing great fiction - and how to use sex as another tool for advancing plot, enhancing characterization, writing revealing dialogue, etc. Although the topic is ostensibly the act of sex, Benedict's book is really about how the act of sex helps readers understand what's going on in your book and in your characters' lives in a way that most people understand is about far more than the plumbing of our human anatomy. Benedict structures her book well and productively, with lists where appropriate and a consistent format in each chapter. Her best advice (which you'll have to read the book to truly appreciate): make sure there's always at least two things going on.

This was recommended in place of Susie Bright's How to Write a Dirty Story, and I have to say compared to it, this is a much better book. It focuses on sex, and the wide variety that's out there. One thing that I really enjoyed is that the author doesn't ignore important topics: AIDs, Adultry, incest, and many other things. She doesn't treat any subject as taboo, nor does she approach them with embarrassment. They are simply topics she discusses. I was pleased to see that she touches on all types of sex: first times, married sex, adultery, recreational, etc etc. She brings up points that anyone writing a sex scene needs to think about, and reminds you that sometimes the sex isn't the main purpose of the scene, and that it doesn't have to be graphic to get the point across. I found this book to be much more helpful than others. Instead of telling people how to prepare, it uses examples to show Benedict's points, and picks those examples apart so the reader can understand exactly why such things are necessary.

My feedback to the Author:Sir, much like many law enforcement professionals, you’ve fallen victim to your own ego. I’m confident you read these reviews so I wanted to give you some helpful feedback.You start the book with your qualifications and generally badassery. This is ok and expected. As a reader, I appreciate your qualifications.Yet, as the book goes on you simply overdue it. Chapter after chapter you recite your: education, martial arts expertise and physical prowess. My god man! We get it!As a reader, I’m skipping over these sections constantly. I think, ok, he is that guy in law enforcement (we all know that guy). It takes away from the gem of a book you have created.To reiterate, we get it man! You’re Chuck Norris times two. You created Giraffes by uppercutting a horse. You can hear sign language. You are so bad ass, you make onions cry. You don’t shake hands, you make them tremble. You play Russian roulette with a fully loaded gun and win!For the love of all that is holy, please have a serving of humble pie! Whew....rant over. Excuse my candor.Hopefully this sufficiently illustrates my point. One smart ass cop to another. Otherwise, this is a great book. Godspeed.

First of all, this isn't a terrible read. The book gives basic pointers on how to calm situations. That's all the good to it. The first few chapters are the author explaining why it's great that you're reading his book. Mixed in with that, he ensures that you know all about his personal achievements. Sure that makes him sound like an expert, but after the 5th time of being reminded that he's a PHd it gets a little old. I'm sure you could find better books on this topic, but if you want to hear how awesome the author of this one is, just read the first few pages.

The book is only about a quarter of an inch thick, but five chapters in they're still introducing the concept and telling you about all the things you're GOING to learn. There's a foreword and an introduction. None of the chapters should be telling me what this book is going to teach me, it should already be teaching me by that point. The method is a good one, but this book is padded out beyond all reason.

Okay book. Has some good advice, some of the most useful stuff are related to samurai mindset. My main criticism comes from the fact the like many other books, this one could be written in 50 pages or less, although I concur that a book with 50 pages or less raises a suspiscious eyebrow from potencial customers about being thorough and/or comprehensive so if you buy it keep in mind you will read the same stuff many times throughout the book.

The concepts in the book make quite a bit of sense and the techniques will certainly help me at home and at work. I like that the book focuses on a principle and gives specific examples and techniques to use that principle in real life. Sure, the evidence is anecdotal, but that's what makes the principle stick.I had two small annoyances with the book. First, the first few chapters are a sales pitch for why you should read the book. Spoiler alert: I already bought the book; no need to sell it to me. Second, the book can be a bit more repetitive than I like. I understand that the author is driving home a point but it seems that, sometimes, he goes too far.Overall, I'd use it again as reference and recommend it to others (it went to my personal library at work and was immediately borrowed). Worth your time.

There are some good pointers here and I can see how these tips will help deflect in the law enforcement field; yet, not quite applicable to the general workforce. The author seems to try to hard to prove his credibility. I got tired of that. Outcomes are proof enough. His most important point was the approach and attitude.

My main issue with this book is how the author spent about 3/4 of the text saying that verbal judo works and how he learned it through his years as a police officer and so on, and talks about how he has two belts in two different styles of martial arts and yada yada yada, but when it comes down to tips/advice/execution, its only about three sentences throughout the entire book that benefited me. I was expecting more on how to deescalate a situation and turn it around and have the other person comply through smooth talking and such, but its mostly an entire book about this guy talking about how hes such a smart experienced person, high education, police officer, martial arts ninja, and verbal judo master, which he never even explains. Everything you need to know is on the back cover.

The Acing series are fantastic books, they have really nice breakdowns of the concepts without all the extra fluff you get from other supplements. The drawback? The index and glossary of terms. As in, there is none. The table of contents is 3.25 pages, the book is almost 500. If I want to look up something specifically, like Vested Remainders, I have to go to the chapter on Present and Future Interests and go through page by page until I find what I'm looking for. If you don't know if a topic will fall into the chapter on Real Estate Transactions or Co-Ownership rights, then you have to go through each chapter until you find it. This, obviously, makes finding specific topics very inconvenient.As the series is, 3 starts. Adding an index and a more detailed table of contents would definitely bump it up to 5.

Didnt help nearly as much as i thought. If you are struggling with the landlord/tenant, adverse possession etc it might be helpful for studying. However, the hardest part of real property is future interests and the way they went through FI was just not very helpful. I usually like the Acing study guides, but was not overly happy with this one.

This is a great supplement for the 1L year. All of the "Acing" books are well written, concise, and matter of fact. The entire series follows along with the general curriculum of classes (keep in mind that every professor teaches in the order he/she feels is best). This Property edition is no exception, it is not exact to the book my professor teaches, but it is a solid supplement to the themes and material taught in the course.

The book is fine for a very basic understanding of property. However it does not dovetail any of the information. Further, the typical hardest part of any property class is the present and future interests which this book slaughters. It abbreviates everything, does not go into the differences nor does its graphs help explain anything. Stick with the Nutshell or Crunch Time books.

Cali'd property by studying professors past tests and reading this book. I did read the entire book in one day though. Good luck.

An absolute must have for 1L's or those preparing for the bar. Property quick and easy!

Not as helpful as the others in this series. Contradictory to some of the material in class but that could be style type.

CAUTION: I am a practicing administrator with extensive experience observing and providing feedback to teachers.Teacher evaluation is a hot topic right now. I get it. We all do, and while I appreciate the depth of history about teacher supervision that is covered in this book, there is not much here to help practitioners of teacher evaluation get better at providing meaningful feedback to teachers. For instance the authors write, "If student achievement is not linked to teacher evaluation, teachers have little incentive to develop into experts." They got that one wrong. This is simply not true.Teachers don't need a ranking from a state test in order to be motivated to be an expert. There is not a one-to-one correlation between expertise as a teacher and student scores on large scale, summative, standardized tests. The large scale tests that districts and states have been using lately to call out the effectiveness of individual teachers is a completely flawed model. Those tests were never designed to measure the expertise of individual teachers. They were designed to measure the overall quality, progress, and improvement of the system (school or district) in general. The fact that states are using these tests for high stakes (diploma requirements) is not an good excuse or a best practice. However, the recent practice has increased student motivation to do their best on the state tests.Side note: Interesting.Expert teachers inspire their learners, and inspiration is hard to measure. The seed of inspiration doesn't bear fruit in less than 9 months. However, even experts need meaningful feedback to improve, and experts are always improving. Intrinsically motivated teachers are no different. They will seek out feedback and training. Student learning is an important part of the effective teacher equation, and any teacher worth their salt can rattle off (and show you) a variety of ways (summative and formative, formal and informal) they measure student learning, achievement, and growth. The key to developing teachers into experts does not rely on more or better tests that "link." It relies on finding people who care and providing them exceptional training and support. FYI: that equation works for other school leaders as well.

Marzano looks at 40+ aspects of effective teaching with his usual sense of balance and realism. He offers a clear, multi-tiered rubric for teacher evaluation with an emphasis on teacher growth and critical insights into teaching and student learning. This book could easily begin and end the conversation for performance based evaluation being held between teachers and principals across the nation. As a 26 year teacher (NBCT) and a brand new principal this book provides me and others the place to begin the dialogue that will lead to classroom excellence for all teachers. No teacher will ever achieve the highest levels of performance in all 41 areas, but every self-critical educator will be able to to affirm his strengths and improve his "developing" areas. Both teachers and principals will benefit by studying this book even if they are unfamiliar with Marzano's extensive body of work.This book would best be used collaboratively in an atmosphere of safety, trust, and professionalism with a goal of improving classroom instruction over several years.(Politicians, please pay heed to Marzano's wisdom when he alludes to the reality that schools do not change profoundly in less than a decade and teachers do not hit their greatest understanding of teaching until after their twelfth year in the classroom and beyond. It would be best for all concerned if teachers did not make laws and politicians stayed out of classrooms.) Principals, I strongly urge you to read Kim Marshal's book first and apply Marzano's work to the fourth and final area Marshal addresses. Teachers on professional growth plans or plans for improvement will find this work helpful and insightful.

Nothing new here. Perhaps the best use of this book is as a reminder of what we all know and use. Good teaching is good teaching. This book can be useful to administrators who are poor evaluators. There is nothing in here that is not in Marzano's Art and Science of Teaching.

Well written and informative. The author is not my favorite person, as I have seen public education devastated as a result of his research, but this book is an appropriate read for burgeoning administrators.
