Review
"Praised by the Splendid Table, Gourmet, and original American gourmand James Beard, the book is both food guide and anthropological exploration of America’s mostly rural foodways. It’s also...an extremely compelling argument to plan a road trip across a region or even the country. If you don’t already own a copy, or if yours is more than a decade old, now’s the time to put this in your shopping cart." --Eater

I have bought every issue of this book and keep it in my car for road trips. Totally trustworthy . Local food with great info about the places. Does it have every single roadfood stop in a state? Nope, only the very best. taking it to Maine this summer!
We bought this guide to help us find places to eat during a 3 week cross-country trip. Frankly, there weren't enough restaurants to choose from, and we ended up using it less than we originally thought. It is a fun book and does have some out-of-the-way places that were offered.
I loved this book! I learned so much about real regional cuisines and would love to travel to try some of these places. My only complaint is that Washington was poorly under represented! We have delicious regional cuisine all over the state and they only covered a couple places near Seattle. Seems like all the focus was on the South.
These guys, the Sterns, are great. An all-encompasing review of throusands of the roadside restaurants, greasy spoons, weird food places and any place that serves up good eats. I have been following the Sterns since the late 70's or early 80's and they never disappoint. Buy this book!
Great book if you're going on a road trip. It is roadfood. So the few restaurants I've stopped at from the book are very small and not good/clean restroom stops. However, the food has been amazing and worth the less than 5 star accommodations.
Great reference book for road eats all across the nation. Very easy to use. You can look up the location you're going to or the type food you're looking for. I've used the older versions on cross country trips for several years now. Jane and Michael or other Roadfood reviewers have been to each spot and give you a true feel for the place.
We enjoyed almost every place they recommend. Good eating places while traveling and nothing too fancy or expensive. Find out quickly what the locals have known all along. We tried places from Maine to California.
I love all of the Road Food books and any book by the Sterns. Lots of great new places to check out and also brought back some great memories of place I had been too in this area ...and now I will visit those again. Definitely a "Keeper" book. Betty Parr
