I suspect that this book would be much better known if the English translation were better. At times I struggled to understand what the author was saying - not because I do not understand the general concepts but because I did not understand the translation. Based solely upon the parts where I was able to understand the author’s message, I give the book 5 stars. Based solely upon the translation, I give the book 3 stars. I do not mean to be overly critical of the translator. His English is much, much better than I could ever hope to be with Japanese. Still, the author complains that the West does not really understand the critical details of how Toyota achieved their success. This book might help to explain 90% of what the West is missing, but the translation makes it so that the last 10% is still unknown. If a new translation of the book comes out in the future, I would purchase it again just to get that last 10%.
For anyone who is really serious and want to create an effective organization and to understand the real assets and strategies needed in product development then this is a must read. The concepts and reality of Product Owner in Agile stands nowhere when you get the core concepts presented in this book. BTW, Where are the real assets in any organization? "The real assets are the three types of information asset of "design information, process know-how, and human brain." Where all these assets exists? Human Brain. You will get to know the core thinking that is required to build an effective organization/products.
